Ever wonder how to choose the best headshot out of hundreds of great ones?

This can seem like a daunting and endless task but it doesn't have to be!

When going through and choosing "the one" I would advise you to seek the opinions of your most trusted advisors.

Feel free to ask for help from a respected agent, manager, casting director, acting teacher, somewhat successful actor or career coach.

Listen to what they say and write it down but remember to not put too much stock in any one person's opinion about your pictures. Try to take everyone's opinion and use it to narrow down your selection.

At the end of the day it's not always about choosing a picture where you like the way your face looks. It is about choosing a picture that will WORK and will get you auditions for roles you are RIGHT for.

Often actors ask me how they can best prepare for a shoot,  today I will share some of my tips!

First and most importantly...try to get a good night's sleep the night before- the kind where you don't need an alarm to wake up. Feeling and looking rested will allow you to really be yourself and sell YOUR brand!

The eyes...even though I never shoot in direct sun- If you have eyes that are extremely light sensitive, I recommend practicing looking at somewhat bright light/objects for just a couple seconds at a time without squinting. The eyes are the windows to the soul- don't shut the blinds!

Not wearing sunglasses on your way to the shoot will also help your eyes adjust to the beautiful Los Angeles natural light, as well as not leaving indentations on your gorgeous face!

Taking care of your skin is equally important so of course I'm going to tell you to cut back on smoking (or quit!) to reduce redness and inflammation. It also helps to avoid alcohol & greasy or salty foods for a week before and drink LOTS of water. This will help prevent puffiness, dehydration, broken capillaries, red eyes, etc.

And finally...EXERCISE! but don't work out TOO much on the day of, or the day before the shoot. You want to be energized, refreshed, alert, and open.

That's all for now! Check back soon for more nuggets of wisdom.

Welcome!

"Caroline was wonderful, I could not have asked for a better experience. I hate taking pictures and Caroline made me feel at ease in front of the camera and with the entire process in general. I love my pictures. Thank you again for everything Caroline!"

"Caroline is amazing! From the moment she walked in she created an atmosphere for me that was encouraging and relaxed. I actually had fun having my photos taken! (A first.) As a result, these are the best headshots I've ever had. I think the confidence she gave me actually went beyond the photo shoot, and also affected my life. "

(Now Back in Los Angeles full time!!  And Thank You also for making me Backstage Reader's Choice Runner Up for Favorite Headshot Photographer in Los Angeles for 2010!)

I am a headshot photographer who loves actors, because I am an actor myself.
I deal with the challenges you deal with as an actor every day, so I understand your fears and questions, and I am here to make your shoot the most fun, relaxing, comfortable, engaging, and easy shoot you’ve ever had AND get you the best results too.
I want you to get that agent you need, that manager you want, and called in for those roles you are so perfect for--there especially is where my experience comes in, of having worked for agents, managers and casting, in both NYC and LA, since 1999. (I started taking darkroom photography classes when I was in junior high, and also at NYU, and I am a second generation professional photographer.) I really know the business--so well, in fact, that on my first day of interning at a full service agency in Los Angeles, I was offered a paid position!  Crazy, huh?
I DON'T want you to have to get new shots taken again in a week, a month, a year, or even two years. I don't want your headshot to be just "usable."  What we do is just too competitive.

I want you to be in love with your headshot, and confident about sending it out, and putting it in the hands of those with the power to give you work. It’s not just having a great shot that your agent, or your mom, or even I love. You have to love it too. You, really loving your headshot, will propel you to actually have your headshot work for you.
Casting directors love my pictures because I make you look great, but I especially make you look like YOU, using all natural light. (Not looking like your picture? Every casting directors #1 pet peeve.) A handful of agents in LA refer their clients to me pretty regularly because the results speak for themselves. I make people look their best, but still like themselves.

I specialize in capturing your unique essence and a wide range of looks, expressions and emotions within each wardrobe "look" that we shoot (with several different packages to choose). I encourage you to PLAY during the shoot--especially in this digital age! No more worrying about “losing” a frame. We shoot until we get it. You can also see your pictures as we are shooting, as much as you'd like! (Just ask.)

I will work with you to help you create a wardrobe that makes you look and feel great, and also works for your casting. We will get the looks for those roles you are perfect for, as well as stretching beyond--to give you a variety.  We can meet and talk beforehand about your needs, preferences, and career goals, and we’ll just get to know each other a bit as well.  (I usually have consultations with people Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 10 or 11 am in West Hollywood.  This is not a requirement, but I think it's a good thing.)

[If you or your representation have any specific background, location, or other request, just let me know. Yes, I am the expert--BUT, this is also a collaboration, and you matter! This is about you!]

BOOKING:
I am usually booked about two weeks out, but you may request to be put on the "call in case of cancellations" list which may open up sooner.
RUSH orders can sometimes be accommodated (there may be an additional fee), depending on my schedule.
I am currently based out of Los Angeles.

If you are in New York, I travel there 3-5 times a year, more often when the weather is good.  My NYC trips always fill up VERY fast, so book as early as possible to guarantee your spot.

HAIR & MAKE-UP:
I always keep an eye on your hair and make-up, but women may choose to use one of my awesome hair and makeup girls,  who I adore working with and HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!!!

PRICING/RATES:
Despite receiving the Backstage Award, I have still managed to keep my rates quite low. You'll be completely comfortable spending A LOT less than you would with the other top photographers in both LA and New York. True, I am not the cheapest there is, but I truly believe I am far and away the best value you will find.  People keep coming back over the years.

Questions to ask your photographer:
Do you know what’s happening NOW in the business? Do you watch TV, movies and see theater? Do you read the trades? Are you up on the changing trends in headshots? Do most of your clients find you through paid advertising? Or word of mouth and industry referrals? Do you shoot mostly just model types? Do you have people like me on your site and in your book? Do you meet beforehand? What is the quality and length of the meeting beforehand? Do you ask people to hold uncomfortable poses for long spans of time (i.e. on your knees, lying on a table, standing on one foot, etc.) How many people do you shoot a day? (Beware of anyone that shoots more than two people a day. This is what’s known as a headshot factory and it is not a pleasant experience.)

And remember, the more you put INTO your headshots, the more you will get out of them. Come prepared, have a great attitude, know thyself, love thyself, and be open!
